The President of the Republic, Sh.T.Z. Ilir Meta received today in a cordial meeting a representative of the National Youth Network in Albania (ANYN).
In this meeting they presented to the Head of State the findings of their third national report “Youth in Albania 2020”, according to whose main conclusions: in the last 10 years 140,390 young people have left Albania, over 51% of youth in the country suffers from unemployment, while during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, 63% of young people did not have any confidence in the Government’s measures to face the many difficulties, including financial ones.

Specifically, the report stated that:
“The lack of trust of young people in the measures and economic plan of the Albanian Government to cope with the economic crisis and beyond, was another important finding of this report.
61.8% of young people confirm that their family members did not receive financial assistance in March 2020 referring to the government decision.
92.6% of young people confirm that their families have not received any food aid during the quarantine period!
55.9% of young people do not think and do not hope that the economic plan and measures of the Albanian Government will provide salvation from the economic crisis.
63% of young people at the time of quarantine did not trust at all the measures of the Albanian Government to face many difficulties, including financial ones.
Also, referring to the findings of “Youth in Albania 2020”:
“Youth unemployment continues to be a major problem.
Young graduates are the ones who suffer the highest levels of unemployment.
“Youth brain drain” is one of the most disturbing phenomena.
Another critical finding of this Report belongs to the National Action Plan for Albanian Youth 2015-2020. Almost 5 years after the approval of the Plan, no Monitoring or Evaluation Report has been prepared by the structures in charge of this function and this plan does not provide any figures and data for its full implementation ”.
After getting acquainted with the findings of the report and getting acquainted with the most worrying problems faced by the Albanian youth today, such as the lack of hearing their voice from decision-making institutions, the lack of jobs and equal opportunities, unemployment especially for them graduates and depopulation, President Meta assured young people of his unwavering support in the problems they face every day in the country.
“The time has come for a restart, for an awakening and shaking of the youth, to take control of its fate and the future of the country.
For this it is necessary for the youth to be united, especially for rejecting the falsity of this system, which does not listen to them, does not include them and does not give any opportunity to the youth.
My great concern is the depopulation of Albania, especially the departure of young people, which poses a very serious threat to the future of our country and nation.
The findings of your report are truly shocking and I am committed to working with you to find solutions to the problems you raise.
It is very important that you are involved in all decision-making institutions, in the Assembly, Government, Municipality and wherever decisions are made about your future.
Not just to be “party puppets”, but a concrete and strong voice of denouncing the problems of youth, from education to employment and protagonists of new solutions and opportunities for their peers.
In view of this attitude, the patriotic, patriotic education with the moral and social values of the youth is very necessary.
If 30 years ago, we, the students of the Student Movement, had listened to or waited for our parents, democracy and pluralism would probably never have come.
Today, from the calls “We love Albania like all of Europe”, we are at the stage that “We must make Albania like all of Europe”.
“This is a war we must win because we have no other way,” said President Meta, among other things.
